Keith grew up in Mebane, North Carolina, attended schools in Alamance County, and graduated from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. He graduated from North Carolina Central University School of Law, with honors, a member of the Law Journal, and was licensed to practice law in 1981.

After practicing in Raleigh and Henderson, North Carolina for a year, he returned home as a County Attorney, representing the needs of Department of Social Services, Health Department, Environmental Health Department, and Human Resources. During this period he served as the President of the North Carolina Social Services Attorneys’ Association, and signed the amicus brief in the seminal case of State v. Fearing. He is admitted to all of the Federal District Courts of the State, and to the United States Supreme Court Bar.

Since 1986, he has been in private practice in Alamance County, concentrating mainly on municipal representation, estates, commercial and injury civil litigation. He is General Counsel and Secretary to the Board of Directors of Alamance Farmers’ Mutual Insurance Company, and provides their defense throughout the State of North Carolina.

Since 2007, Keith has served as the appointed City Attorney for the City of Graham. He has previously served as City Attorney for the Village of Alamance.

Keith has serves as a member of the Adjunct Faculty for Elon University, and currently lectures in the Department of Sport and Event Management, teaching Sports Law.

Keith is married to Lynn Whited, and they have 3 adult children. They are members of Hope Church, Burlington, North Carolina.
