Field Sobriety Testing

Field sobriety testing is a battery of physical tests set forth by the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration. These tests are designed to identify cues of impairment. If you are pulled over for DUI in North Carolina you do not have to complete field sobriety testing. Field Sobriety tests are not designed to help you prove your sobriety, they are designed to help law enforcement gather evidence against you. If you refuse to complete field sobriety testing, in some situations this could work against you, in others work for you. Be aware that almost every police, sheriff, or highway patrol cruiser has a video camera that is recording your performance so act accordingly.
